Unactivated users and spammers
#1
In order to try and keep some order in this forum, I will be reviewing any unactivated users on a regular basis. For those I find, I will send them one email to ask if there are any issues. If I get no response and the user does not activate, I will delete the account. This should stop the spammers a little bit (but not those who do activate).

For those who activate and start posting spam (kitchen sales, phone sales etc) there will be an immediate deleting of their account, ban of the username and IP address and deleting the posts. I will try and keep ahead of them but I may need to ask for a volunteer to assist if it gets too much.

Does anyone have any issues with this approach?

regards

I'm happy to help, if you'll let me. Another forum I frequent had a period when on some days there would be dozens if not hundreds of 'new members' joining. Virtually all of them were spammers who made just one gobbledygook post (or advertised phones or something inappropriate). It was a full time job for the administrator to deal with them until the security was updated to stop them - and it worked!

Cheers Red - you are now an administrator (you may need to log on and off again). Thank you for the offer.

I've banned and deleted all the ones I know are spammers. We now have 27 registered users.

I've just deleted 4 users - all from the .ru domain, all found as spammers on other sites and all with 0 posts.

Alan seems a sensible approach, it will never catch on ;-)
