I've had my 98 VFR800FiW for nearly 2yrs and it's my first bike. I bought it with 5500 miles on it and it now has11500 on it, but unfortunately it's now suffering from the dreaded regulator rectifier/stator issues.
I've been on numerous forums to see countess owners with this problem, but I'm not sure I've come across a permanent solution.Â
Does anybody here have any advice/solutions?

I don't think there is any permanent solution as such, but one thing people have done is to eliminate the plug between the alternator and loom by hard-wiring it, and making sure all other connectors are clean and tight. VFR charging systems haventbeen Hondas strongest bit of design. If the battery is getting old it also seems it can overstrain the charging system causing things to burn out. If a VFR owner hasn't changed the regulator, they haven't lived!
The UK VFR forum is down at present, for a rebuild (or did it just burn out...?)

I had seen that about hard wiring the generator cables. The previous owner had replaced the RR and I had my first one go about 7mths ago. I replaced it with an Electrex World MOSFET unit and made sure the connections were clean on both multiplug connections, but it appeared in had another failure a couple of weeks ago.
I replaced it with a MOSFET unit from another manufacturer as Electrex didn't have any in stock and sent their RR back to be tested, which came back as being fine apparently - apart from the melted cabling and 3 pin plug that is!
I'm thinking maybe it's the stator that gone, so will try and test it this week. ?
