Is this forum any use
#1
Question
This forum has been very very quiet in the last few months. It gets no recognition in Golden Wing and the HOC Exec don't seem to feel it is of any use.

So, my question to you  is - do we continue it or should it be shut down?

[And this post could be indicitave of how useful it really is - depending on the replies I get Smile]

Well it does seem to be that it's the (very) few same people actually using it. Hardly any of the new (that is, the genuine ones!) forum members post any more than just the one initial post, then disappear. Many don't even come back to respond to answers to their 'help me please' posts.

I'm not a Faceache user (I do have an account though) as I don't like how it's laid out, and I can't seem to get on with using it. Seems to me you've got to be 'friends' with everybody too to find out or even understand what's going on.

Might as well scrap it due to the low usage, I think. The VJMC was going to scrap their forum as the admin person got a lot of rude criticism from one member about its design and lack of use, so he said 'enough', but some brave soul has stepped in to continue it (not me, I might add!).

I'll now go and join the 'In the dark Luddites Motorcycle Club'...

As I am not a facebook user, without this forum then daily contact with the HOC is lost (not that there is much). However as Red as pointed out it sadly isn't used and the HOC execs seem to ignore it, so maybe it is time to call it a day.

So do I, Steve. I find the format and structure much more condusive to what we want to discuss. But if we don't have HOC management supporting it - and promoting FB and twitter instead (who uses twitter these days?) then it's hard going.

I'll leave it alone for a while and see how it goes. I have asked Jude (magazine editor) to advertise it in the next issue.

the problem seems to be the off shoots of honda models gold wing cbr nc pan european all have there own sites and forums i think it should all come under hoc and the different forums in one place so all rallies events and rides can be seen by all honda owners not just model specifics

Thing is, the HOC is a proper club in the old fashioned sense. It's not just an internet 'club' where most 'members' never seem to meet any other 'members' (a bit like these facebook groups). Most of those don't have regular meeting places or even club constitution or rules - the HOC does. I can hardly see all the others wanting to join the HOC, club/forum/whatever (heck, they might have to cough uo some money!), and it's a free society so people do whatever they want to do regarding clubs and forums. Not many Fireblade jockeys want to associate with (for example) C50 owners, and vice versa. That's why all these different groups exist.

Perhaps it was a shame this wasn't mentioned at the AGM yesterday?

I know I'm new here but am an admin for a car forum which does have support from the Owners club. Not knowing the history etc here, I'd suggest you go back to the 'exec' and encourage them to take this form of media more seriously. Forums will slowly gather good intel on the bikes they support but with no support will ebb away into history. Having the HOC support will increase use. Also, have you gone onto Facebook to replicate the forum in part? I also use Facebook as a linked media so one feeds the other. Facebook tends to be more instant and short-term in threads where the forum is longer term and better for referencing material.
