Not bike - but car related:

My car insurance is up for renewal. I got the standard "here's our renewal fee" from eSure. So, I went online to the comparison sites as you do and....

they were all around £100 more than the renewal fee.

Guess what - I renewed.....

Good result, I often find that getting a quote as a new customer from my current insurer, is usually cheaper than my renewal as a 'loyal' customer.  Confused
It's hard to make a comeback when you haven't been anywhere........

It pays to hold some sort of advanced riding qualification, just saving on insurance alone.
Younger riders would learn to be much safer, also older riders who think they know it all would find how much they
don't know.

Alan, but it always worth checking on the comparison websites, just in case.  I find that an insurer will remain reasonably competitive for a few years then the price creeps up.

Hi,

I agree. I pay for my insurance monthly, usually check when the renewal notice arrives but, August 2014, I was moving house so just let the insurance carry on. When I did eventually check the monthly direct debit (which wasn't very large), I found the insurer had actually hiked the premium by about 25%! Angry

Btw, reason I pay it monthly is I got caught out a couple of times needing to change or suspend an insurance, only to be told I could only cancel it, which would incur "x" other charges ... Dodgy But, as you know, you now can't just let an insurance 'run' any more ... At least if I pay monthly, I can just cancel the DD and suggest the insurer does the same as a penguin with its bill ... Big Grin

Alan,
I use a company called Lockton, who are actually brokers, and specialise in Classic cars or cars over 10 years old.
I find them a lot cheaper than any other company for London cars and their service is fantastic. You actually have an account manager and are never put on hold or hear an automated message!
I have a Range Rover Vogue and they are half the price of any company on the price comparison websites.
