New Member seeking advise
#1
Hi there all,

Im a new member and a new biker  Smile

Im a mature chap who has wanted to get into biking for years and years. I've got my Mod 1 coming up soon and fingers crossed, hope to proceed got the Mod 2 ASAP.

I've decided to by an Africa Twin Adventure Sport - I'm a tall chap and this style of bike just seems to suite me. So, although Ive been driving cars for 35+ years i have no 'no claims' bonus for a bike so need a good insurance company that is set up for new but mature bikers - advise please?

I guess that I should also be joining the Honda owners club, anything else?

Security, the insurance companies ask about security devices, what is standard and what should I add to reduce the premium?

All guidance and advise will be gratefully received.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You will need to ring around insurance companies, some may be sympathetic and offer additional discounts according to your driving history.

As for security the Africa Twin comes with the Honda HISS immobiliser and if a new model it will also be Datatagged. I would recommended buying additional locks to secure the bike. The minimum a decent disc lock when you are out and about. I use Almax chains to secure my bikes, not cheap but then nor is replacing your bike. You may consider an alarm to be fitted as well.

HI Chris

Thanks for getting back to me. To date I havent found any company to be sympathetic to my driving for 35 years and that includes MCN, Carol Nash and Bennetts all of whom seem to the biggest. I've just ordered the Adventure Sport, can't wait, and yes it is fitted with the HISS immobiliser and is Datatagged, I can't believe that they don't come with a factory fitted alarm! The Honda dealer suggested that people don't bother with them?

WRT insurance, the key point seems to be locking the bike in a shed or garage which reduces the premium by about 20%. I'll certainly be buying some of the additional locks though.

WRT to Honda Owners Club membership - i paid via PenPal last week, there was no application process involved etc. Do you know if I'm supposed to wait for someone to call me now?
